and
Melissa Dore v College of Nurses of Ontario (Divisional Court)
During my time as a Nurse Practitioner, I was a member of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO). The main feature of membership that enticed me to join RNAO was access to the Legal Assistance Program (LAP), a service where in the event of an investigation into one's nursing practice, access to a lawyer would be provided. Despite being eligible for legal assistance, RNAO LAP, the RNAO Board of Directors, Mara Haase (RNAO LAP Administrator), Wang Ya (RNAO Director of Finance and Administration), and Dr. Doris Grinspun (RNAO CEO), failed to provide me access to the legal assistance I was entitled to. The consequence of this was me having to defend College of Nurses of Ontario allegations of professional misconduct without a lawyer where ultimately, I was found to have committed the act of professional misconduct resulting in the revocation of my license to practice nursing.
I have appealed the College of Nurses of Ontario's decision finding me to have committed the act of professional misconduct, and their decision to revoke my certificate of registration to practice nursing. The Appeal is to be heard before 3 Ontario Superior Court of Justice Divisional Court Judges the week of March 2, 2026.
The result of not being provided the legal assistance I was entitled, has led to permanent personal, professional, and financial harm. As a self-represented litigant, I have pursued civil action against the Defendants to seek damages to repair the devastation their actions have caused in the lives of myself and my children.
